Before We Talk Testing, Let's Talk Myths
Coffee has carried persistent health myths for decades, from claims that it “stunts growth” to concerns about heart health or digestive harm. Much of that narrative came from outdated research. Today, the scientific consensus is clearer. For most healthy adults, moderate coffee consumption is considered safe. Coffee isn’t for everyone however. We do not recommend it for children, and individuals who are managing medical conditions should consult a qualified doctor before making dietary changes
What about Mold and Mycotoxins?
So where do concerns about mold in coffee and mycotoxins in coffee come in? Coffee is an agricultural product. Like any crop, its safety depends on responsible sourcing, proper storage, and validated laboratory testing. Most crop-based foods, such as cereals, spices, nuts, fresh and dried fruits, juices and wines, meats, cocoa and chocolate, and yes, coffee beans, contain mold and mycotoxins.
Does this mean your coffee is toxic? Of course not! In testing, scientists found that even if you drank the "dirtiest" coffee, you would have to consume gallons a day, to even come close to risking toxic levels. That being said, here at Fresh Roasted Coffee, we want you to trust whats in your cup.
Know Your Brews
At Fresh Roasted Coffee, serving up the best coffee starts at the source.
We work with farmers, co-ops, exporters, and trusted importers who follow established best practices, from growing to storing, reducing the risk of mold and mycotoxin development in coffee. But responsible sourcing is only part of the equation.
After these coffees are sourced, a certified third-party food safety laboratory tests for traceable amounts of mold, mycotoxins, and pesticides.
While proper handling and testing dramatically reduces risk, you won’t hear us use terms like “mold-free” or “clean coffee.” Those phrases are not honest or based in scientific fact.
