The Cooperative Behind the Coffee
This coffee comes from ASOBAGRI, the Asociación Barillense de Agricultores, which was founded in 1989 by twenty Mayan coffee and cardamom farmers in the Huehuetenango region. Today the cooperative has more than 1,200 members across approximately 30 small villages, surrounded by the Cuchumatanes Mountains and the Maxbal Forest Reserve. ASOBAGRI's work centers on teaching and supporting sustainable agricultural practices and organic farming methods — not as a marketing position, but as a practical commitment to preserving the quality of the land and the coffee it produces. When the farming practices improve, so does what ends up in your cup.
