What's Inside?

Corn Silk - Loose Leaf Botanical

If you have ever shucked an ear of corn you have likely discarded corn silk. The tassels on the ends of ripe corn are usually a waste product, but can be brewed into a delicious and nutritious tea. The glossy strands were sacred to the Native Americans as well as indigenous tribes in Central and South America where corn was a staple crop.

When brewed, corn silk tea has a mild and earthy flavor. The strands are packed with vitamins C and K and also potassium. The high polyphenol content helps make corn silk a great protector against free radical damage in the body. Corn silk is often used as a diuretic and support for the urinary system. The flavonoids present in corn silk can also have anti-inflammatory effects and may help to decrease oxidative stress.
