Cascara
What's Inside?
Cascara, Spanish for “husk and/or skin” is the dried fruit of the coffee cherry. Though a seemingly wasted portion of the coffee harvesting process, Cascara has actually been consumed for longer than roasted and brewed coffee in Arabia.
Cascara has a sweet and tart flavor, much like raisins. Once the cherry has been separated from the coffee seed (bean), the juicy fruit is dehydrated in ovens. The final product is a hard, dried fruit that can be steeped into a caffeinated, tea-like beverage filled with antioxidants.
