Organic Papua New Guinea - Unroasted Coffee

Bring the art of coffee roasting home! Our Organic Papua New Guinea Green Coffee Beans are harvested from the lush, fertile highlands of the Bena Bena Valley, situated right along Papua New Guinea's legendary "Highlands Highway." This is more than just a bean—it's an experience waiting to be unlocked by your perfect roast.

Flavor Potential (Awaiting Your Roast)

When expertly roasted, these beans consistently yield a uniquely smooth and notably sweet coffee, featuring a medium body and an incredibly creamy mouthfeel.

  • Expected Notes: Roasters can anticipate flavors of candied walnut, chocolate, and warming spices in the initial taste, leading to a dark and fruity complexity with a clean finish.
  • Roasting Recommendation: This versatile green coffee takes well to a wide range of roasts, from a medium profile that highlights its sweetness to a darker roast that emphasizes its bold, rich chocolate notes.

The Papua New Guinea Difference: Wet Processed Perfection

Our PNG green coffee is wet-processed (fully washed). This crucial difference in processing is key to the resulting spectacular flavor profile:

Unlike many Indo-Pacific coffees that are wet-hulled, this method develops a prominent, natural sweetness and greatly reduces the heavy, earthy, or vegetal flavors often associated with other regional varieties, resulting in an exceptionally clean cup of coffee post-roast.

Sustainably Grown on "Coffee Gardens"

Coffee first flourished here after the introduction of the prized Jamaican Typica variety (often called Blue Mountain). Our premium unroasted organic beans are sourced from smallholder plots known locally as gardens. These gardens are integral to the community, serving not only as sources for exceptional Papua New Guinea arabica green coffee but also for a diverse array of food crops, ensuring both quality and sustainability.

Ingredients: Organic 100% Arabica coffee beans. Organic certified by PA Certified Organic. OU Kosher certified. Packaged in an SQF-certified, renewable energy-powered facility.

Do not grind, brew, or consume unroasted coffee. Green coffee beans that have been purchased and used/roasted are not returnable. Due to agricultural regulations, we are unable to ship green coffee beans to Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

"I roasted it to a nice medium + roast. Not the first time I’ve ordered the Papua New Guinea from Fresh Roasted Coffee and won’t be the last. Great beans. Great price. Awesome company!"

Good late afternoon coffee

"I prefer Java but the Papua New Guinea is a nice substitute. Roasted medium and darker, the darker having a more chocolate flavor. It makes a nice afternoon cup of coffee."

One of our favorites

"This is one of our top 4 or 5 beans. We like mild, flavorful coffee roasted to the beginning of second crack. This one in particular is always consistently good."

"Top quality, amazing flavor, deserves higher than a 5 star. My number one seller now."

Kind of the standard to me

"I like to home roast single-origin beans from different places. But I always come back to this one. Unique and distinct and oh so good! Look up the history of coffee in PNG and you'll see why!"

Matt M. (5/5)

PNG coffee is one of

"PNG coffee is one of the best coffees. It is a shame that it is not as well known as some of the other options. Good! It keeps supply up and prices down. I have roasted many coffees from several countries. This is what people ask me for the most. My mother prefers this over Kona Peaberry! When I roast PNG, I take it until the first few snaps of the second crack. It gives a bold flavor. I'd say it has an earthy sweetness to it. I use an Aeropress, and this coffee shines using that brewing method. I have never gotten a poor-quality bean from Fresh Roasted. It is well sorted. If you are looking for a decaf, the PNG SWP is well worth the look. It is my favorite decaf. I've never made my own half-caf. I need to."
