Organic Uganda Bugisu - Roasted Coffee

This USDA Organic medium-dark roasted Ugandan coffee, while still retaining some inherent characteristics, showcases the bold and intense flavors developed during the longer roasting process. It's strong and smooth with a very mild acidity and surprisingly sweet, dark chocolate notes.

The title “Bugisu” belongs to the Bugisu tribe, native to Uganda’s northwestern districts and who, during the final years of British colonialism, became entwined with agricultural politics through the formation of Uganda’s strongest coffee cooperative union. From the mid-50s to the mid-90s, as production increased, “Bugisu” became synonymous with top-quality coffee from Uganda and has remained a proud mark of smallholder coffee from the western slope of Mt. Elgon.

A new for us and it was great!

"We generally try to order an organic dark roast but thought we would try this medium dark roast and we were pleased. In our opinion it was robust enough to use for lattes and didn't have the bitter undertone that a true dark roast can put out at times. We would buy again."

Best Of the Morning!

"I first bought this coffee in Uganda. This is an excellent coffee that starts the morning off perfect! Full flavored but smooth."

A Happy Accident!

"I mistakenly ordered these beans coarsely ground instead of whole. I was planning to use them for espresso, but needing to come up with an alternative I decided to cold brew them overnight to make some coffee concentrate. The beans are mellow, chocolatey, low in acid, and super pleasant in iced milk drinks. I'd definitely buy them again."

decent, but nothing amazing

"For me this was decent, but nothing amazing. There are so many other great brews, I don't think I'll order this one again."

Darker Roast Than Expected

"I’ve been drinking light and medium roasts for a while now and wanted to see if my old taste for darker roasts could be rekindled by the Ugandan med-dark roast. At first, it was way too roasted for my taste but it has grown on me a little since then. I brew in my Fellow Aiden pourover style brewer and going to thiner filters that drain faster has helped a bit. Wish FRC would publish Aiden brewing profiles for all of their coffees! Still think that after finishing this bag I will return to the light and medium roasts."

Great value

"Great value for this new offering--nice change of pace from the frostbite blend for my morning cold brew!"

Thanh-Liem H. (5/5)

It's not that it's not good. . .

". . . . just thought I'd try something different. I'm a big fan of big, bold dark roast coffees, and while this does taste good, it's not quite there for me. of course I will use it all with no complaints!"

Uganda Bugisu Organic - Intense

"Compared to other dark roast coffees I have had from FRC, this is the most intense. I have to be careful when I measure the beans, as using too much is easy. This coffee is a big mouthful of fruity, earthy goodness."

ANTHONY B. (5/5)

I would like this much

"I would like this much better if I could specify the "roast level". I love this coffee bean, but not roasted as dark as this one is."

Robert O. (4/5)

Rich roast, touches of chocolate notes.

"A decent alternative to Kenyan coffee, but not quite as smooth."
