Coffee producers in the DRC worked without organization or coordination, forcing them to negotiate independently with buyers who were free to impose price according to their mood. To get a better price, they would take tremendous risks to move their coffee beans to markets in Rwanda. The Muungano Agricultural Cooperative was formed in 2009 to improve the quality of life and the quality of coffee from these growers. Today, the co-op has over 4,000 members, nearly half of which are women. The increased selling power has allowed its members to buy medicine, send their children to school, and improve the quality of their products.

Congo Crushes w/Exotic Spice Zing !!!

"Coffee loves Altitude and Volcanic Soils and I had no idea that the Congo's tallest Volcano was just shy of 11,500. This combined with the fact that the equator runs through the Congo create the opportune growing combo, for nectar of the Gods, disguised as Coffee … Wow, love !!!"

Surprising!

"I like African coffee for its bright and citrusy flavor profile, but Congo is so unique. It’s like a really mellow. More melon than citrus and not as acidic. I drink this as my morning coffee when I get bored with the usual morning blends."

William H. (5/5)

Great coffee. I typically like Tanzanian Peaberry as on of my go-to favorites but this this coffee is a nice change of pace

Fan Favorite

"I reorder this variety often. A little bit of spice on a nice mild/medium body. A hint of sweetness at the end. Good notes and great flavor."

Andrea C. (5/5)

Good not great

"Tried this one fir the first time and it was fine. Wasn't great wasn't bad. Not the biggest fan of the flavor profile in this one."

"I found this coffee to be very smooth with a hint of sweetness."

A New Morning Favorite

"Our daily morning coffee is the Tanzanian Peaberry and we recently added a small bag of the Organic Congo Kivu. That was a big mistake . . . we should have just went with the 2 LB bag! ❤️ This is a pleasant, smooth, well rounded start to the morning."

Tammy W. (5/5)

Pretty good beans, I like it.

"Good beans. Not my favorite (that would be the Ethiopian Sidamo Guji), but still a very good brew. Slight sour fruit undertones and a reasonable complexity, which is something I enjoy with the light roast beans, rich flavor profile. Beans smell sweet. Goes very well with my Clever dripper and steel French press."

Q&A

Is this Kivu or Kalahe? I ordered Congo Kalehe but my order says Kivu. What’s the difference?
It's Kalehe! That's our newest origin - and the only one we have - but our shipping software which adds the titles to the packing lists hasn't updated with the new titles yet. Thanks for letting us know!
