Milk Thistle, Silybum marianum, has been used for centuries as a traditional medicinal herb. The seeds contain silymarin, a flavonoid compound that helps the plant to protect itself from harmful environments. Silymarin is an antioxidant that can also help the human body to help maintain biological health and protect from free radicals.

Milk Thistle traditionally grows wild throughout North America, Europe and Australia. The spiky purple flowers of the milk thistle plant are related to the common daisy and ragweed.
