Annona muricata, commonly known as Soursop, is a fruit-bearing tree native to tropical and sub-tropical climates. This evergreen plant blooms and can bear fruit nearly all year. In the United States, it can be found in Florida. The delicious fruit, commonly referred to as custard apple, is safe to eat, nutritious, and high in fiber. However, the seeds of soursop fruit are toxic and should not be consumed. 

Soursop is rich in beneficial active compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, and phytosterols. In traditional herbal medicine, the fruit and leaves of soursop trees have been used to relieve digestive ailments. Soursop, rich in vitamin C, may help boost the immune system. Soursop also contains anonaine and asimilobine, which are compounds that may help to support the central nervous system. Leaves of the soursop tree can be brewed to make a healthful tea, which many consumers prefer before bed due to its potential calming properties.
