Hojicha - Loose Leaf Green Tea

Our Hojicha is a deliciously toasty Chinese green tea, roasted in the style of traditional Japanese Hojicha. If you are looking for a rich, mellow tea with fewer tannins, Hojicha is the perfect tea to indulge in.

Crafted from high-quality Chinese green tea leaves and roasted in the traditional Japanese style, this tea undergoes a unique transformation. The high-heat roasting process turns the vibrant green leaves into a deep, earthy brown, creating a flavor profile that is remarkably smooth, nutty, and naturally sweet.

Good evening tea but an acquired taste

"Hojicha is lowest in caffeine among the true teas, so it is non-diuretic and good as an evening tea. The quality is excellent. The taste is somewhat unusual, one needs to get used to it. Some members of my family liked it, some were not so sure."

The best low-caffeine option for tea lovers.

"Hojicha has an earthy flavor, an appealing dark color, and a satisfying mouthfeel. Positively's product is good quality and very reasonably priced."

Andrew G. (5/5)

great daily tea

"Its a great tea I enjoy drinking through the entire bag, it never gets old as I have a couple cups every morning. Its mellow, has a fantastic flavor, and FRC's description of it is spot on!"

Justin W. (5/5)

Tasty, toasty tea!

"I’m not one who particularly likes “grassy” green tea, and fortunately this tea is not grassy. I think it’s related to the toasting. It’s balanced and pretty mild while still standing up to a little added milk."

Best Organic Hojicha Tea

"I've been ordering from Fresh Roasted Coffee for two years and their Organic Hojicha Loose Leaf Tea has never disappointed. It's fresh, full bodied, the best value anywhere and never had an issue with shipping. I was so impressed with their selection of teas and coffees, I've recommended them to friends."

My new favorite!

"So delicious with a hint of “toasty” taste."

Love it!

"Another great one from FRC!"

malty green tea

"I love trying new green tea varieties and this was a nice change of pace. Lightly astringent, the smoky treatment of the leaves results in a richer and almost malty brew."

In a category of its own

"This is my first hojicha, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It's wholly different from steamed or pan-fried green tea. In both appearance and taste, hojicha is closer to a light black tea than a green tea. You can definitely taste the roasting process in the tea, and there is no bitterness. If you are looking for a tea that is milder than a black tea yet doesn't have the vegetal flavor of a green tea, give this a try."
