A google search of 'coffee sample pack' led me to FRC, from whom I had already bought a couple bags of coffee through Amazon. I prefer now to order directly through FRC (for bean freshness purposes).
As far as I have found, no other website has such an intuitive interface, range of choices and reasonable price as does FRC. I've ordered two sample packs now, and I love the excitement of getting to try a new coffee each morning. the 2 oz bags are the perfect size for my 2.5 L French Press (I usually dilute it a little beyond that even once i transfer from the press to my carafe). So def one sample bag will give you a day's worth of coffee, which means you'll get to experience it at all stages: from freshly ground and piping hot in the morning, to aged and lukewarm in the evening, which of course gives you the advantage of having a rounded perspective of any particular kind.
The coffee is always freshly roasted, well packaged, and quickly shipped. The sample bags even have notes/characteristics particular to that bean listed on the package, so you can detect nuances, train the palate, etc.
EVERY coffee from FRC I've tried tastes fresh. I am just an average Joe who moonlights as a coffee aficionado, so I can't get too wordy on what specifically I like about what coffees I do like, but my favorites are:
Yirgacheffe (of course!)
And the only one I haven't liked at all was the Malabar Monsooned (reminded me of vegetables that had sat in a crock pot too long).
The best part about the sample pack, for me, is that every once in a while, you taste something truly exceptional (like the Yirg or Supremo). To me (and my unrefined palate) a lot of them taste the same, but in the best way, like mmm, high quality, freshly roasted coffee. But like I said, once you've cupped something really exceptional, you will know it. But you've gotta try new kinds to find that exceptional cup. You've got nothing to lose tho, because it's ALL very good. Thanks a lot FRC. Loyal customer here.
