Montezuma Sunrise is a certified organic, medium-bodied coffee with a crisp finish. It has a slightly nutty flavor and is a wonderfully refreshing coffee.

Cupping Notes: Balanced, Lemon Wedge, Pecan

Montezuma, the great ruler of the Aztec Empire achieved great power during his reign, expanding land in Mesoamerica and maximizing his already extensive wealth. However, the king was unusually sad despite his successes. The name Montezuma means "he is one who frowns like a lord". Little is definitively known about this king due to the contradictions between traditional Mesoamerican texts and first hand accounts from the Spanish conquistadors. Here at Fresh Roasted Coffee, we put a new spin on these uncertain tales and turned Montezuma's frown upside down. Montezuma, plagued with worry and doubt about the dissolution of his great empire, found great solace in the warm sunrise at the top of Tenochtitlan, his most impressive temple. To accompany his morning ritual, Montezuma drank the nectar of the gods, a steaming cup of our very own ancient blend, Montezuma Sunrise. This mysterious blend gave him the energy and vitality to rule the great kingdom, but his constant caffeine crashes hindered him, leaving the kingdom exposed to Cortes and the Spanish invasion. Here's where the mythology gets tricky. Nobody knows how Montezuma truly died, some say his own people revolted in an angry mob, some say Cortes killed him over an other-worldly cup of coffee. All we know for sure is that this blend is the stuff of true legend.

Fine Ground: At a fine grind, coffee should be soft to the touch – slightly finer than granulated sugar.

Espresso: Great espresso requires skill, patience and quality equipment. Without these things, and a proper grind, espresso can be thin and weak or over extracted and clog in the portafilter. The perfect grind is essential to reaching espresso nirvana; an intensely rich and creamy extraction with thick crema and well rounded flavor.
    Grind: Fine/Very Fine

Aeropress: The Aeropress is a quick and efficient way to make flavorful, rich coffee with low acidity and bitterness. With specially designed micro-filter technology the Aeropress consistently provides some of the best coffee in just under 20 seconds.
    Grind: Fine/Medium

Medium Ground: At a medium grind, coffee should be gritty like sand with no considerably large pieces.

Auto Drip Pot: The Auto Drip style coffee maker is an efficient and hassle-free way to make a fresh pot. With the correct grind and water to coffee ratio, it IS possible to get a great cup of coffee using this method.
    Grind: Medium

Chemex: The Chemex is an elegant brewing device that extracts only the purest, most flavorful coffee without any bitterness or sediment. Because of the incredible functionality and design, the Chemex, paired with Chemex Bonded Filters, create a pure coffee experience unlike any other.
    Grind: Medium/Coarse

Coarse Ground: At a coarse grind, coffee is separated into large fragments similar to grained kosher salt.

French Press: The French Press is a classic and easy way to prepare decadent and smooth coffee and can easily be converted to brew cold coffee. The coffee grounds and water are separated by a fine mesh plunger leaving only fresh brewed coffee after 5 short minutes.
    Grind: Coarse

Toddy Cold Brew: The Toddy Cold Brew system is a simple and consistent way to extract a delicious and low-acid brew. Oils and fatty acids that would normally settle into hot coffee are eliminated leaving you with a perfectly balanced and smooth cup of iced coffee.

I was looking forward to trying this coffee based on the description and few reviews.

To me or tastes like a wet ashtray. Should have stuck with the Bali Blue Moon, which was rich and full of flavor.

Is a shame I have to go through 5lbs of this before I get to experience a different coffee. If only smaller packs or samplers were a little more cost effective.

We own a bakery and have tried various local medium roast coffees to add to our repitoire and found the Montezuma blend to be the most well balanced and well received of those we tried. Not too rich, not too wimpy on flavor - perfect for the common coffee drinker.

I've been getting the Montezuma Sunrise for about a year. It NEVER disappoints. I don't usually get into trying to describe the taste but Montezuma definitely has a lovely chocolate element. On top of tasting superior to anything I can buy locally, Fresh Roasted Coffee has by far the best price. Makes organic, delicious coffee afforadable for me.
